Savinelli Leonard Self Portrait pipe. The 5th in the series honoring the Italian genius. Painted around 1513, the original is housed at the Royal Library in Turin Italy.

A very limited production of only 100 pieces in smooth and 150 pieces in rustic have been produced with each pipe serial numbered. A silver bas relief of the portrait is on the end of the included tamper and on the shank of the pipe.

The Balsa System

Savinelli's "patented" Balsa System uses natures most absorbent wood - Balsa - in a way where any moisture that might be produced during the smoking process is absorbed by the insert, thus eliminating the possibility of any bitter taste ever reaching the end of the mouthpiece.

As an added plus, the balsa insert also has a cooling effect on the smoke, coupled with Tar and Nicotine retaining properties. The results are a cool and dry smoke accomplished Naturally. Most series are referred to as being "Convertible" - this means that the series can be smoked with or without the balsa insert.
